1)
Before 2007 ended
National had already set the pace for ’08. The 2008 Workshops have been posted
and are available on-line.
Required
in 2008 are the Instructor Workshop and the TCT Refresher. Additionally, Vessel
Examiner and Program Visitor Workshops have been updated and are available.
Flotillas
are reminded that the Sexual Harassment Workshop is also required annually.
At
the 26 April, Division 2 Conference, all workshops will be presented.

6)
AUXOP courses have
been and are being revised and updated. Significant changes to AUXNAV &
AUXSAR are due to be released in 2008. These courses are designed to improve
the knowledge and skills of members involved in surface operations. Encourage
your members to start with the basics, AUXSEA and AUXPAT, and work up to the
more challenging courses in Navigation and SAR.
7)
Mentors –
Flotillas are encouraged to appoint mentors to help new members through the
“Auxiliary maize.” Without someone a new member can look-to for information and
support, a friend, chances are that new member won’t be a member for very long.
8)
Boat Crew Mentors
– Flotilla Commanders need to update their Boat Crew Mentor lists. Remember, to
be appointed as a mentor in one of the three qualifications, the mentor must be
certified (or have been certified within the last two years) in that
qualification. Send the names to Sharon Fox, Mentor Coordinator.
9)
Boat Crew Status –
Captains will receive the REYR list at the District Board Meeting 12 January
08. The deadline for correcting errors and omissions is 1 March 08. It is
important the Division and Flotilla leadership get this important information
to their members quickly.
10)
Retention – People
join the USCG Aux for a variety of reasons and needs. High on their list is a
desire to learn and gain/improve their skills. To improve your chances of
retention and to have excited and active members, be sure that you are
providing training opportunities for them. Need help? Need ideas? 2 February –
New Member Workshop, February 08, - Communications Drill, 28-30 March –
District Conference, 26 April – D Day – Division 2 Conference.
11)
Member Training is
an Auxiliary activity. We need to work together to provide our members with
“our best”. By sharing our training
resources we improve the AUXILIARY not just individuals. If you are offering a
course and if it is open to all our members, please let me know. I will have it
posted on the “Member Training” web page, which can be added, seamlessly, to
your Division or Flotilla web page. When you put out a notice be sure to
include Date, Time, Location, POC information. I also need written permission
to post this information, as it is available to the public.
Respectfully
submitted,
/s/
